Bed & Breakfast

Bed & Breakfast

The great British holiday is a much loved institution that has only gotten better with age. These green islands have innumerable hidden corners and gorgeous hideaways, from the rolling moorland and dales of Yorkshire to the craggy cliffs of the South Coast, or the towering mountains of Scotland to the emerald hills of Ireland, there is always somewhere new to explore in the UK. this landscape has so much to see and do, without ever needing a passport!
The bedrock of any great holiday though is the accommodation. In Las Vegas you want a decadent hotel with endless shrimp buffets and a rollercoaster, in Monte Carlo you want casinos and champagne. For a UK though, these just wouldn’t be right, would they? No! For a real British break there is no better option than a real bed & breakfast.
A Real Bed & Breakfast Experience
If you ask me, you can keep your fancy hotels and penthouse suites. When I go travelling in the UK it is a real bed & breakfast that I want. But what is it that makes a real bed & breakfast?
The Bed
First and foremost, a real bed & breakfast has to be warm and cosy. Whether coming back from exploring untouched wilds in Scotland, fishing in a loch or taking a stroll around the local town, coming back to a bed & breakfast should feel like coming home. However smart a hotel room, it will always feel like a hotel room, but a good bed & breakfast is different. Thick carpets, warm towels and a comfort bed with plenty pillows is always a good start, and these are the kind of personal touches that only an attentive bed & breakfast could provide. We aren’t talking old fashioned here, a good bed & breakfast can be as modern as you like, but there is something especially unique about a bed & breakfast that no hotel, hostel, or penthouse could ever replicate!
The Breakfast
Whatever you have planned when you stay in a bed & breakfast, you are going to need a decent breakfast. From reading a nice book in the sun on a park bench to setting off to explore a corner of unmapped mountain, a good bed & breakfast will set you up for anything. Breakfast is a personal thing, and everyone has their favourite morning routine, but for me a good, cooked breakfast is the corner stone of any bed & breakfast stay. One of my favourite things about staying in a bed & breakfast is getting to try the local twist on the classic cooked breakfast, like local sausages or Scottish porridge with a tot of whisky.
Your Next Bed & Breakfast
Broom Lodge on the seafront of Largs in Ayrshire is next on my list of bed & breakfast destinations. With a warm welcome, hearty breakfasts and an attention to detail that would put Buckingham Palace to shame, the bed & breakfast at Broom Lodge is a must for any holiday in the Ayrshire region.
